My Cozy Mid Century Living & Dining Room

Living Room

I am so excited to finally share with you my living room and dining room. I wish I could have finished it sooner but it took a lot longer especially with kids. When decorating, I wanted to go for a simple minimalist look. As we started decorating, we realized we both really liked a ‘mid-century’ style. Since we have kids I wanted to make it cozy and have an inviting feel. We’ve had this beautiful sectional for years and I hope I can keep it for many more. Its cozy, a centerpiece and functional. We bought it from Macys a few years ago. They don’t have this exact one, but they do have similar sectionals.

Color Palette
Before decorating, always choose your three base colors. After that you can add pop of similar colors and shades. My base 3 colors are black, white and rust with accents of gold. They go perfectly with this fall weather. Throughout the years i’ll usually change the pillows or blankets to match the season.

Focus of the Room
Most people choose their rug as the focus of the room. Most of my palette and colors are neutrals but I did want a pop of color. I chose this beautiful Safaviah rug that I bought from All Modern. My dream was a real Persian one from Macys, but for now this will do.

Gold Accents
All over you’ll see accents of gold. I think most of my house has accents of gold. Here the curtain rods, the tray on the coffee table, the blanket basket, the side table and other small decor items are all gold. You never want to over-do it so make sure its subtle and does overpower the room.

Coffee Table
I bought this beautiful marble coffee table from Article in our old place to complement our sectional. I love round pieces in a living room. Marble is versatile and long lasting. The kids don’t get hurt form the sharp edges and anything wipes clean.

Bookshelf
We found this beautiful bookshelf from Amazon. I know I was so surprised but it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a leaning bookshelf but also wanted to make sure it was anchored to the wall. We displayed on here our albums, favorite books, and some pictures. I love how its functional and doesn’t take up too much space.

Prayer (Blanket) Ladder
This has to be my favorite addition. I always loved blanket ladders and then I thought why not I add prayer rugs to it. It displays them in a simple way and we use it on a daily basis. Highly recommend it! I found this one for a decent price on All Modern.

TV Stand
I usually prefer to mount the TV. However, the wall where the TV is, is open to the staircase so we were not able to do that. We got his brown TV stand also from All Modern. The drawers are amazing as the kids toys are nicely tucked away. Most of their toys are in their playroom but I keep a few upstairs when I need them to be busy.

Curtains
Our favorite feature of this house is the amount of natural light that comes in. I didn’t want to put dark curtains and darken the room so we opted for blings that still let light in and white sheer curtains. We did ad some blackout curtains on the sides to prevent the glare on TV. I was fine without them however hubby insisted.

Other Decor
I added some faux plants, cases and a clock to the room. I don’t like a lot of decor as I like a clean look. Most of my items are light or neutral colored. I use the pillows and blankets to make it more lively.

Dining Room

Our Dining Room is connected to our living and then also opens up into the kitchen. I definitely love the open concept but it does make it tricky for decorating as everything needs to flow. We kept with the same color scheme to continue that flow.

Dining Table
We got this Mid Century dining table from surprise Target! We loved one on West Elm but it was just too costly. I wanted a white table, I know risky with kids, as I wanted to keep the space fresh and clean. The floors are hardwood and the cabinets int he kitchen are also a wood color. These chairs and our kitchen stools are also from Target. Really comfortable and best part, they wipe easily. Can you tell that’s a theme in our house?

Mirror
This mirror just came in this week. Ive been on a hunt for a beautiful gold mirror and finally the one I loved on West Elm went on sale! I wanted a unique share, rather than the common rectangle mirror. Anthro has a beautiful one but way out of my price range.

Dining Table Decor
I kept it fresh by adding whites and beiges and of course accents of gold. Plaid is there for seasonal and I Switched out white flowers for some fall foliage. And of course we can’t forget our pumpkins.

That concludes our cozy living room and dining room. I hope you loved my little tour. I don’t see myself as an expert on interior decor but I do love it for my own home!.
