10 Must Have Books for the Muslim Child

  1. Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns by Hena Khan: A Muslim Book of Colors. A fun and colorful book on how to teach to children about colors in a way of learning about Islam. My favorite moment was when my daughter saw the Mama in blue hijab and said “Mama look, she’s like you, she wears hijab!” This is why I love introducing these books at a young age to help give them a strong sense of identity. You can find it here.

  2. Migo and Ali by Zainab Mian: Love of the Prophets: This is my favorite on this list. The best way I’ve seen a children book written about the Prophets. Its informative, short and easy enough for kids to understand. I recommend it for children 3 and up. This author is amazing and I highly recommend all her books! You can get it here.

  3. Ilyas and Duck series by Omar Khawaja: One of the first series I bought for my daughter. The author is also a father who wanted to write fun books for his kids. The characters are two friends on missions in each book. They talk about Eid, Ramadan and my favorite search for Allah. The topic of ‘God’ is difficult for kids and this book really helps to open that conversation with them. Find it here.

  4. The Way to Jannah by Yasmin Mussa: A very simple and easy book to reach kids of when to say which phrases such as Jazakullah, InshAllah, Alhamdulilah, etc. My daughter caught on quickly and loves it! You can get it here.

  5. ABCs of Allah Loves Me:I’ve never seen a book like this for children. It talks about Allah in such a loving and beautiful way. Even I learned a lot from this. You can get it here.

  8. It’s Ramadan, Curious George by H. A. Rey and Hena Khan: I love this take on Ramadan in a popular American series. I also read this book to my daughters class last year. It’s simple to understand and also very informative about Ramadan.. Love this for toddlers and younger kids. You can get it here.

  9. Meet Yasmin by Saadia Faruqi: A super cute book for young Muslim girls. It shows Yasmin as different characters such as a builder, a painter and so on. It’s a fun and spunky book. You can get it here.

  10. My Dad’s beard by Zanib Mian: I haven’t gotten this one yet but it’s on my list. How cool that a book talks about a dad’s beard being a symbol of faith? You can get it here.
